Community Guidelines

We’re all neighbours here. Houndr is a place to come together and support one another in everyday life. B/c we think everyone should have an everyday support system they can count on. Our goal with these Guidelines is to create some rules that better ensure all of us feel safe among & supported by our neighbours.

We take this stuff seriously. Violating these Guidelines may result in removal from the platform. If you need to report bad actors on Houndr, please email us with details here.

Identity & behaviour

Connect authentically.

Houndr profiles are intended to represent real humans and dogs in our neighbourhoods. Any profile on Houndr must be honest and authentic. This includes being transparent about intentions and affiliations. Foster meaningful & genuine connections.

No fake accounts & impersonation.

Creating fake accounts, malicious accounts, or accounts meant to impersonate another person is prohibited on Houndr.

Act respectfully.

Respecting one another’s time, attention, personal choices, and personal boundaries is essential to creating a safe and trusting community. Be respectful in interactions with humans and in content posted on the platform. Houndr monitors and restricts behaviours that are dishonest, undermine the integrity of the platform, violate personal boundaries, or serve to intentionally upset people.

Always think about what you would say if you were talking to someone face-to-face. Inflammatory language won’t be tolerated. Keep conversations civil.

Be nice.

Conversation is an essential part of Houndr’s community. All we ask is that those conversations stay honest and considerate. Bottom line: treat others as you would like to be treated. Hate speech, supremacy, or behaviour that incites hate or violence against individuals or groups of people based on who they are or their beliefs, is prohibited. Bullying, harassment, exploitations, and acts of hate undermine community building in safe spaces where humans can trust one another. Houndr enforces against any of these actions.

Be safe.

All users should take ownership over their personal safety and the safety of any dog in their care. Don’t put yourself or others in danger. All users must be observant of local laws when using Houndr.

No threats, violence, or personal endangerment.

Using Houndr to promote, facilitate or organize violent, criminal, or non-consensual actions that endanger anyone, including any dog, physically, mentally, or emotionally is prohibited.

Content

Don’t spam or self-promote.

The City feed is a place for neighbours to communicate, ask questions, share experiences, and cheer one another along -- not for spam. Content posted to the City feed that is promotional or repetitive is spam. This includes link-bombing, or promoting something or someone where it shouldn’t be promoted.  We don’t allow unsolicited promotion of your own businesses.

Don’t share private information.

Posting other neighbour’s private information without their explicit consent is prohibited. Also be cautious sharing your own personal information. Don’t post about or share in your profile any information that you aren’t comfortable being public.

Only post about dogs you know.

Only post about your dog(s) or a dog you have a real connection to. If you don’t know a dog, don’t post about her, with the exception of lost dogs.

Heed medical advice.

Do not rely on Houndr for medical advice. Call the vet! While you can ask for opinions and advice, of course, we can’t guarantee the quality of the answers that you may get. Though we do value the support of neighbours and insight from our collective experiences, Houndr isn’t a substitute for direct examination and professional medical assessment of your nugget.

No sexual content & nudity.

Dogs are almost always naked, but humans shouldn’t be. Pornography is not allowed on Houndr. Publicly shared photos must be appropriate for general audiences.

Nothing gratuitous.

Gratuitously graphic, disgusting, obscene, or violent content is prohibited on Houndr. We don’t allow content posted to upset, shock, or disturb the neighbours. If you’re posting graphic content, please add “Graphic” in your post title. It may be important to share, but it may also be uncomfortable for others. This includes blood, injury, or abuse. Please add photos to the comments, not the post itself, and summarize in the first sentence.

Don’t infringe on copyright.

Don’t share copyrighted material without permission.

If you see something off, tell us. We review your comments and take action when we see someone violating these Guidelines. Sometimes it means giving someone a warning. Sometimes it means removing their account from the platform.

Be nice neighbours, everyone. We’re better together.
